Give Thanks First
As we near to the end of October, our minds generally drift toward the next two major holidays: Christmas and Thanksgiving. While most of the world prepares for Christmas, remember that Thanksgiving comes first. As a Christian that should always be our motto. Give thanks first. I give thanks to God everyday for my church family here at Summerdale! I thank Him that He has allowed me to work with so many wonderful young people and to belong to a group of Christians that love th

Adam & Eve
Today our Christian Soldiers group studied Genesis Chapter 2, where God puts man in the Garden of Eden and gives him charge of all of His creation. Adam went on to tend the garden and name all of the animals. However, something was off. When Adam looked around every animal had been made both male and female, but there was no companion for Adam. God noticed this and said in verse 18, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him”. Of cour

God's People Come Together
With the devastation of Hurricanes Helen and the Milton we here on the Gulf Coast are so blessed. It reminds me though just how precious life is. It can be lost in an instant. It is so important as Christians that we remember that and take every opportunity we have to share the Gospel with others. We never know when we will take our last breath. We have to be resolved to share the Gospel! It is also so wonderful to see people coming together in their communities to help those

Triump Over Tragedy
With the recent devastation in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas I know that many of us can empathize with those people. So many people are without basic needs and are struggling. I know many of us are willing to help and I am so thankful for God’s church who is always willing to step in a help those who are in need. I can not help but think about those who have lost their life due to this tragedy. Over 160 souls were thrust into eternity in an instant. It reminds

The Goodness of God
In our Camp David classes, our kids are learning about creation. Today they learn about day five of creation where God made all of the birds and fish. Next week, they will learn about day six and how God created all of the land animals and man. As they have been studying the first chapter of Genesis it is amazing how God’s plan is perfect. We read how after He created each day, He said “it is good”. That is because everything that God does is good. He has a plan for everythin

Bear One Another's Burdens
Last Sunday was such a wonderful Lord’s Day! We had a great time of worship and fellowship together. It was so great to be back together in the fellowship hall to have a meal and spend time with one another. I got to thinking though, why do we wait for a special occasion to spend time together outside of worship? I know many of us in fact do spend time together outside of corporate worship but generally we as the church don’t. However, that is exactly what God intended when H

Back to Church Sunday
Today is “Back to Church” Sunday. We are so excited that you have chosen to come worship with us today. When I think of this idea of “back to church”, the first thing I think of is how important it is that we assemble to worship. However, it is equally important for us to be here for Bible class. Especially our kids and teens. Our children are in such a impressionable state and they need us to set an example for them. I can remember when I was growing up we were always there

The Purpose of Prayer
This past Wednesday we started a series on prayer in our teen class. Prayer is something that seems so simple, yet it is so important for us to practice it. How many times have you said to someone “I’ll be praying for you”? We say it all the time it is almost second nature, but how many times do we follow through with it. That is why it is so important for us to have a purpose with our prayer. Sure, there are times when it is good to just talk to God about whatever is on our

New Kids Program
Today we started our new kids Bible class program, Camp David. This is a program designed to resemble a vacation Bible school type atmosphere, with a lesson and a craft or game for each group of kids. We hope and pray that it will encourage our kids to want to be in Bible class and help to grow our kid’s ministry. This year we will be studying the book of Genesis. For the next couple of months, we will study the days of creation. Our goal is to eventually go through the entir

Area Wide Services
Last Sunday our teens went to the first area wide devotional of the school year. We had a great time of fellowship and worship. When I was in the youth group at Spanish Fort growing up, I loved going to the area wides! I always looked forward to getting to see my friends in the other youth groups. It was awesome to watch our kids, getting to hang out with their friends from camp. I think it is so important for our kids to spend time with other Christian teens. This year’s the

Who Is My Neighbor?
As we have been studying forgiveness this month and looking at Peter’s question of how often I should forgive those who have sinned against me, I have been thinking about another question that was asked of Jesus. Who is my neighbor? In Luke chapter 10, Jesus had been asked which was the greatest commandment. He answered to “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul and mind” and then offered a second commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself”. Then he was asked

The Nature of God
In Hebrews 8:13, the Bible says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever”. This verse is often quoted but I wonder if we have ever stopped to think about what this verse really means. Simply put, it means that Jesus never changes. Being that Jesus is a part of the God head, the same could be said for God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Often, we may hear people reference “the God of the Old Testament”. Well, God is the same God today that He was when He spoke t

Forgiveness
One of the hardest things as a Christian is to forgive those who have wronged us. It is just human nature to hold a grudge and not want to forgive others. The problem is, when we refuse to forgive others, we are harming ourselves. You see, forgiveness is more for us than it is for those who need to be forgiven. In Matthew 6:15, Jesus tells us that if we don’t forgive those who have wronged us than God will not forgive us for our sins. By offering forgiveness freely we are fre

Much More Prayer
This month our theme has been “Much More Prayer”. We all know that prayer is something we should do often , as 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “pray without ceasing”. Jesus even instructed us on how to pray. As Christians we know that pray is an essential part of our daily walk with God. So why is it so hard. I think like anything else; it takes practice. As an athlete in high school, I always heard the “practice makes perfect”. Now that I have got into coaching, I have lear

Good Ole Job
Many times, in life we go through situations that we don’t understand. We face trials that at the time we feel will break us. Last July I began such a trial. Most of you know that last July 22 my dad went to be with the Lord. Today, is the anniversary of the day we brought him home from the hospital. It was the beginning of a very tough and trying year. I still do not understand why this happened but as time has gone on, I have come to realize that God is in control. Job had

Hall of Fame of Faith
Last Sunday morning in our teen class we started a study looking at Hebrews chapter 11In it we read of the great “Hall of fame of Faith”. In it, we see heroes of faith that the writer brings to us as examples of faith and how we should live our lives. We read about people like, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Issac and about how they were faithful to God. This got me thinking, who would I put in my “Hall of Fame of Faith”? For me, it would be my parents, my grandparents and senior
