With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s natural for us to start thinking about gratitude. But for Christians, thankfulness isn’t just a seasonal mindset—it’s a daily way of life.

Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” That’s a big statement. Give thanks in all circumstances, not just the good ones. Not just when everything’s going our way. But even when life is uncertain. Even when things are difficult. Even when we’re waiting, hurting, or unsure of what comes next.

Why? Because gratitude isn’t based on what’s happening around us—it’s based on who God is. And He is always faithful, always present, always working—even when we don’t see it right away.

This month, we’re focusing on “A Grateful Heart,” and it’s a message our families and our church need more than ever. Gratitude helps us stop complaining and start noticing blessings. It helps us stop focusing on ourselves and start lifting others up. It makes room in our hearts for peace, joy, and contentment.

And just like everything else—we need to pass this on to our kids. They need to see gratitude in us. In the way we speak, the way we pray, the way we serve. The more we model thankful living, the more our children will grow up seeing that gratitude isn’t just something we say at Thanksgiving—it’s part of our identity in Christ.

So this week, take time to thank God. Thank Him for your family. Thank Him for your church. Thank Him for your trials. And thank Him for His Son.

Because a grateful heart is a heart that’s close to God.

And always remember—you are loved.

Eric
