You Belong Here

There’s a phrase I want every young person in our church to hear and believe deep down: You
belong here. Not just in the pews on Sunday morning. Not just at youth group events. But in the
body of Christ. In the mission of the church. In the work God is doing right now.
Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking young people are “the future of the church.” But the
truth is—you are the church today. Your presence matters. Your voice matters. Your faith
matters. You are not on the sidelines waiting for your turn. You’re already in the game.
Paul wrote to a young minister named Timothy and said, “Let no one despise your youth, but be
an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy
4:12). That wasn’t just good advice, it was a challenge. A calling. And it still stands today. In
fact, that was our theme last year. When we started here, we wanted the teens and the kids to
know that they were special. That is still true. They are so special to everyone here at
Summerdale.
Being plugged into the youth group isn’t just about showing up to events or hanging out with
friends. It’s about building your faith and helping others build theirs. It’s about encouraging each
other, praying for one another, serving others, and learning to be the kind of disciple who makes
a difference.
Here’s the truth: you don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have all the answers. You just
have to show up with a heart ready to grow. Ready to serve. Ready to be part of something
bigger than yourself.
So whether you’re new to the group or you’ve been around for years—lean in. Take part. Ask
questions. Join the discussion. Sing louder. Sit closer. Help someone else feel seen. We need
you. The church needs you. And most importantly—God wants you here.
You belong here.
And always remember—you are loved
Eric
