Much More Prayer

This month our theme has been “Much More Prayer”. We all know that prayer is something we should do often , as 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “pray without ceasing”. Jesus even instructed us on how to pray. As Christians we know that pray is an essential part of our daily walk with God. So why is it so hard. I think like anything else; it takes practice. As an athlete in high school, I always heard the “practice makes perfect”. Now that I have got into coaching, I have learned that that phrase should be “perfect practice makes perfect”. So, we need to practice praying more but we must do it “perfectly”. Now I am not insinuating that we are perfect. We are far from it. However, we can practice our prayer in a more perfect way.

When you say your prayers, this week try these four things. First, believe in what you pray for. As Christians we often say we believe things, but do we truly believe them. If we believe in the power of prayer then we should believe that our prayers will be heard, and they will be answered. Jesus said in Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” So, believe that God will give you what you ask for.

Next, understand that your prayers are making a difference. James tells us in chapter five and verse sixteen of his book that “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Your prayers are effective so keep them coming! We you pray leave all your cares and worries behind. Give all that “stuff” that is weighing you down over to God and just pour your heart out to Him. Remember Paul’s words from Philippians “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” God wants to hear what you have to say, and He will hear your prayers, so don’t worry about what to say or how to say it. Just talk to God!

Finally, be confident in your prayers. God wants us to approach Him boldly. The Bible tells us in Hebrews to “ with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Be confident that God will help you in your time of need. He loves you and is always there when you need Him. I pray that in your prayers this week you will be uplifted, edified and will boldly ask for God to bless you and your walk with Him. Remember you are loved!
