Today we leave for Gulf Coast Bible Camp and that is something that, especially our kids and
teens, look forward to all year: Bible Camp. There’s something about it that is just different. The
songs hit a little deeper, the lessons stick a little longer, and the friendships formed often last a
lifetime. It’s more than just fun and games, though there’s plenty of that too, it’s a spiritual high
point. It’s a time when distractions fade and hearts are more open to hearing God’s voice.
Bible camp gives us a glimpse of what it feels like to be fully focused on God. Surrounded by
other Christians, unplugged from the world, we get a taste of what it’s like to walk closely with
Him every day. But then… camp ends. We go back home. The distractions return. The
excitement fades. And if we’re not careful, our spiritual high can turn into a spiritual slump.
That’s why experiences like Bible camp are so important. They serve as spiritual reset buttons in
our lives. They remind us of who we are and who we’re called to be. They reignite our faith and
encourage us to live boldly for Christ—not just for a week, but for a lifetime.
In Matthew 17, Peter, James, and John had their own “mountaintop moment” when they saw
Jesus transfigured. Peter wanted to stay there forever, but Jesus led them back down the
mountain—because there was still work to be done. Our job is to take the faith we find on the
mountaintop and bring it back into the valley.
So, to our campers—soak it all in. Lean into the lessons, the laughter, and the love of God. And
when you come back, don’t leave your fire at camp. Bring it home. Share it. Live it. And for the
rest of us, let’s continue to create moments and spaces that keep our kids connected to that kind
of faith all year long.
Always remember—you are loved.
Eric
