Faith Without Works

For the month of November out Christian Soldiers group has been studying Noah. The story of
Noah is a familiar one to most of us but there are so many lessons that we can learn from it. It is
a story of Faith, Action, Obedience, Grace, and Love. This morning, they focused on how Noah
put his faith into action. Noah didn’t just have faith that God would save him from the flood and
then sit on his hands he acted on that faith and started to build the ark. This is such a great lesson
for us as Christians. We read in James 2:17 that “faith without works is dead”. Having faith in
God is only the first step. We know that it is impossible to please God without faith according to
Hebrews 11:6 but faith alone does not save us. We have to put it into action. We can say we
believe in God and ask Him to save us but without an action of faith we can not be saved. That
action is baptism. Just like Noah would have perished if he had not acted on his faith, when we
are baptized, we are signifying to God through our actions that we believe in Him and know that
He will save us. The same is true when it comes to giving. We talk a lot this time of year about
giving. Giving of our time, our talents and our means. When we see our brother or sister in need
do, we just say “I have faith that God will take care of your need”? NO! We act on that statement
by helping them in some type of way. The same is true within the church. There are many works
within God’s kingdom. If we simply rely on faith to accomplish them, sadly they won’t get done.
We have to put our faith into action. That might mean taking on a project on our own or leading a
group in getting that project done. For some, that might mean giving our money to aid in that
work. We all can be men and women of action for God. Let’s take a lesson from Noah and put
our faith into action daily! As always, remember you are loved!
