Starting Sunday September 1st, we will begin a new Sunday school program for our Christian Soldiers group in grades K5 through 6th called Camp David. This will be a fun and exciting program that we hope will not only encourage and help our kids grow but also will get them exited for Bible class. The program will be like a VBS style of learning, with a story room, craft room, game room and a theater room. The kids will be split into two different age brackets, with kindergarten through 2nd grade in one group and 3rd through 6th grade in the other. They will all begin in the theater room in the fellowship hall at 9AM to sing some songs and introduce the lesson. Then one group will transition to the craft or game room while the other hears the story. After 20 minutes, they will switch. This will allow our kids to learn the story in a variety of ways and help them retain the message. Each lesson will last two weeks. It will also help our teachers by giving them less to prepare for. At the end of class, the kids will be escorted back to the auditorium for worship. We believe this will be beneficial for both our kids and our teachers. One goal of this program is to allow our teachers to rotate more often so that they can attend other classes. That is why we will only ask our teachers to teach 1 quarter (13 weeks) at a time.

Another addition to our Bible school program will be what we are calling Sunday Night Soldiers. This program will start Sunday night July 7th and will also be for kids in grades K5 through 6th. After the evening devotional, all students will be dismissed to the fellowship hall where each week we will have various activities for them to participate in. This program is designed to begin to help our kids prepare for Lads to Leaders. We will work on the various events that are offered at both convention and year-round. Our teens will be invited to be part of this program as a mentor to our kids as well as participants for those who will be attending Lads to Leaders this year. The goal of this program is to create an environment where our kids can learn to be leaders in the church and provide an opportunity for our teens and kids to interact creating a mentor/mentee atmosphere. This will be a great opportunity for all our children to be included in learning to become good and effective leaders in the Lord’s church.

Our goal in launching these new programs is to continue to help our children grow in their walk with God and teach them the principles of His word. However, as the saying goes “it takes a village”. We implore you to consider helping or teaching in our Bible class program. We have some of the most loving, and talented members here at Summerdale and we would love for you to share your talent in the training and admonishing of our children. If you have any questions about either of these programs or about how you can help with them, see myself, Andrea or Steve Yeager and we would love to talk to you about them. As always, remember you are loved!

Eric
