Bear One Another's Burdens

Last Sunday was such a wonderful Lord’s Day! We had a great time of worship and fellowship together. It was so great to be back together in the fellowship hall to have a meal and spend time with one another. I got to thinking though, why do we wait for a special occasion to spend time together outside of worship? I know many of us in fact do spend time together outside of corporate worship but generally we as the church don’t. However, that is exactly what God intended when He established His church. We see from the example of the first century church that they met in one another’s houses. We know that this was mostly to avoid detection from the authorities, but the example is that they spent time with one another. We are called to bear one another’s burdens, but this is hard to do when we don’t ever spend time getting to know each other. One of the things that I try to do for our teens and kids is to give them time to spend together outside of sitting together during church or class. This allows them to really get to know each other and form meaningful relationships. I encourage all of us, me included, to spend more time together outside of church. This way we can form real lasting relationships that will help us as we walk together towards heaven. This week I challenge you to call your brother or sister and check on them, invite someone over for a meal, go to an event together. Spend time with your brothers and sisters in Christ and remember you are loved!
Eric
