Rooted in Faith

As we move closer to our Senior Sunday on May 3rd, I want to continue focusing our thoughts on lessons that are not only good for our seniors to dwell on as they enter into this next phase of their life, but are also reminders to all of us.
One of the greatest challenges in life is not simply starting well, but staying faithful over time. Anybody can be strong for a moment. Anybody can be motivated for a season. But the Christian life is built on consistency. It is built on a faith that lasts.
Paul speaks to this in Colossians 2:6–7, saying, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” Notice the language Paul uses. He describes a faith that is rooted, built up, and established. Those are not words of a shallow, temporary faith. Those are words of stability and growth.
This is especially important for our seniors. As they step into a new chapter, everything around them may change. Their schedule will change. Their environment will change. Many of their relationships will change. And in the middle of all that change, the temptation will be to let their spiritual life drift. But the goal is not to simply have faith when it is convenient. The goal is to have a faith that lasts when life is new, busy, and uncertain.
The same is true for every one of us. Life has a way of pulling at us. Responsibilities grow. Stress increases. Distractions multiply. If we are not careful, we can slowly become less rooted and less established. That is why Paul’s words matter so much. A lasting faith is the result of walking in Christ daily. It is the result of being rooted in His Word, connected to His people, and committed to His ways.
So here is the challenge for this week. Build a faith that lasts. Do not let change, pressure, or distraction move you away from Christ. Stay rooted. Keep growing. Keep showing up. And keep walking in Him, no matter what season of life you are in.
Because a faith that lasts is a faith that leads home.
Always remember, you are loved.
Eric
