Firm Foundation

Senior Sunday is one of the most joyful days on our calendar. We celebrate accomplishments, milestones, and the exciting road ahead. But it is also a day that invites us to pause and ask a deeper question: What is this next chapter going to be built on?
Jesus said that the difference between a life that stands and a life that collapses is the foundation. Storms come for every house. The question is not if they will come, but whether what we built will hold when they do.
Seniors, as you step into new freedoms and new pressures, you will face voices pulling you in every direction. Some will urge you to build on what is popular. Some will urge you to build on what is comfortable. Some will urge you to build on appearances, or to borrow someone else’s faith, or to “figure it out later.” Please hear me. If you wait to build your foundation until after the storm hits, you are already too late. Build now. Dig deep now. Make Christ your cornerstone now.
Parents and grandparents, this day is for you too. You cannot live your child’s faith for them, but you can help them develop a faith that is truly their own. The best gift you can give a graduating senior is not simply provision for the next stage of life. It is a home that pointed them to the Lord, a church family that surrounded them with truth, and an example of steady, sincere Christianity that was more than a Sunday routine. Keep encouraging them. Keep asking them about their walk with God. Keep praying with them. Keep modeling what it looks like to build on the Rock.
And church family, let us remember that our seniors are not walking into the future alone. They need the strength of the Lord, the stability of His Word, and the support of His church. Let’s surround them, exhort them, and help them keep their eyes on Heaven. If we want them to stand firm, we must help them stay rooted in what stands forever.
The storms will come, but God is faithful. Let’s build on the foundation that will not move.
Always remember, you are loved.
Eric
